Habits for a Healthy Environment: How Kenny Waste Management improved employee Health & Wellbeing!

Recognising the importance of health and wellness, Kenny Waste Management partnered with us to implement an Essential Health Check program. Over three years, this initiative has significantly improved the overall Health and Well-being of their workforce.

Kenny Waste Management Ltd is a leading UK-wide total waste management company, headquartered in Manchester. The family-run waste management provider have always put people first and prioritised the well-being of its employees. The results speak for themselves!

The feedback and dedication from employees to improving their own Health and Wellbeing has been immense, it has been so refreshing to see employees delighted with their results after having made efforts to make improvements.

Our Approach

We proposed a structured health check program tailored to the specific needs of Kenny Waste Management’s workforce. The program included:

  1. Initial Health Assessments: Comprehensive health screenings to establish baseline health data for all employees.
  2. Regular Health Checks: Annual health assessments to monitor changes and identify emerging health issues.
  3. Personalised Health Reports & feedback: Detailed reports for each employee with actionable recommendations.
  4. Ongoing Support: Access to health professionals for consultations and follow-up.

Throughout the three years, we conducted initial health assessments for all employees offering Spring & Autum checks to ensure all employees had the chance to take up the opportunity. These assessments included:

  • Blood pressure and cholesterol checks
  • Diabetes screening
  • Body mass index (BMI) & Hip to Waist measurements

Employees received personalised health reports, highlighting any areas of concern and suggesting lifestyle changes.

By the third year, the health check program had become an integral part of Kenny Waste Management’s culture. Key achievements included:

  • A notable reduction in absenteeism due to improved employee health
  • Increased awareness and proactive management of chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes
  • Enhanced employee morale and productivity

The Results

The health check program had remarkable results:

  • Improved Health Metrics: Average blood pressure levels among employees dropped by 10%, and cholesterol levels improved by 15%.
  • Positive Employee Feedback: Employees reported feeling more valued and cared for, leading to higher job satisfaction and retention rates.
  • Enhanced Workplace Culture: The emphasis on health and wellness fostered a supportive and health-conscious work environment.

Our partnership with Kenny Waste Management demonstrates the positive impact that a well-structured health check program can have on an organisation. By prioritising employee health, Kenny Waste Management not only improved the well-being of their workforce but also enhanced overall productivity and morale. We are proud to have contributed to their journey towards a healthier, more engaged, and more productive workplace.

We spoke to Sophie Pritchard – HR Advisor for Kenny Waste Management and here is what she had to say –

How is the overall experience with We Are Wellbeing? – Working with We Are Wellbeing is always a pleasure! All staff, especially Rachael, have been very informative and always come with a positive attitude! The level of service we receive is always great and nothing is too much for them. They create an environment that welcomes people to be open and honest about information, which is very personal to them, offering no judgement, only achievable steps forward.

What is the general Feedback from the employees? – We book in with We Are Wellbeing twice a year, one in springtime and the other in Autumn – this seems to give staff positive steps to continue with their healthy lifestyles throughout the year, encouraging them to keep up the good work!  All achievements, no matter how big or small, are always celebrated which makes staff feel good about themselves.

Do you find your employees motivated for change after Health Checks? –  I’d say the results speak for themselves! Many employees don’t realise their current physical states until they are tested! This gives them the opportunity to measure that and receive guidance on how to make steps in a healthier direction. We have many employees who have swapped driving to work for walking or cycling and many office staff members will go for walks on their dinner to help get their steps in! It’s been really great to see all these positive changes that We Are Wellbeing have encouraged our employees to do!

Building on this success, we continue to support Kenny Waste Management in maintaining and further enhancing their health and wellness initiatives. Together, we are committed to fostering a workplace where health and productivity go hand in hand.
